How do I clear my web browser's cache, cookies, and history?

Users experiencing issues logging into UM services or receiving error messages are advised to clear their browser cache data.

Clearing your web browser’s cache may remove:

  • Saved user names and passwords
  • Address bar and search predictions
  • Browser history

Desktop Browsers

To open menus used to clear browser cache, cookies, and history, confirm that the browser is open and selected and use the following keyboard shortcuts:

Windows: Ctrl + Shift + Delete
Mac: Command + Shift + Delete

If the information below does not match the options displayed in your browser, you may not be running the latest version.

For earlier browser versions or for browsers not listed, search the browser help menu for “clear cache”.

Chrome

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More (vertically stacked dots)
  3. Click More tools and then Clear browsing data.
  4. Choose a time range for the data to be cleared. To clear entire cache, select All time.
  5. Select the types of information you want to remove:
    1. Browsing history
    2. Download history
    3. Cookies and other site data
    4. Cached images and files
  6. Click Clear data.
  7. Close and reopen the browser.

Firefox

  1. Click the menu button (vertically stacked lines) and choose Settings.
  2. Select the Privacy & Security panel.
  3. In the Cookies and Site Data section, click Clear Data….
  4. Remove the check mark in front of Cookies and Site Data.
  5. With Cached Web Content check marked, click the Clear button.
  6. Close the about:preferences page and reopen the browser.

Alternatively:

Click the Library button, click History and click Clear Recent History…. Next to Time range to clear, choose Everything from the drop-down menu, select Cache in the items list, make sure other items you want to keep are not selected and then click the OK button.

Microsoft Edge

  • At the top right, click the Settings and more menu (three horizontal dots)
  • Select History (clock icon)
  • Click More options top right (three horizontal dots)
  • Click Clear browsing data
  • Choose a time range for the data to be cleared. To clear entire cache, select All time.
  • Click Clear now
  • Close and reopen the browser.

  1. In the Safari app, click History
  2. Click Clear History
  3. Choose a time range for the data to be cleared
  4. Close and reopen the browser
