Microsoft Manual Activation Key (MAK)

Microsoft enterprise software must activate with the central network KMS server at least once every six months for continued program access. For campus-owned devices that do not have access to the UM network, MAKs (manual activation keys) are available for check out to departmental and Central IT technical support staff. These individuals only are authorized to request Microsoft multiple activation keys for Windows and Office software. If you meet this requirement, please complete the TeamDynamix MIcrosoft MAK request form. Distribution of MAK keys are strictly monitored.

Terms and Conditions

University of Montana has entered into Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) with the Microsoft Corporation. Through the EES, Microsoft software is made available for installation on university-owned computers.

Under certain situations, Microsoft Multiple Activation Keys (MAKs) will be made available to departmental IT staff for product activation on devices that are unable to activate Microsoft licensing through the Central Microsoft KMS server. Stewards of MAKs are required to keep these keys secure at all times. You will be held responsible for unauthorized use of the Volume License MAKs and software installations.

Please agree to the following when requesting MIcrosoft manual activation keys for Windows and/or Office:I acknowledge that I will be responsible for receipt of the MAK granted to me through my university employment. It is my responsibility to safeguard the MAK(s). I agree to keep proper records relating to the MAK use in my campus unit. I will record and retain:

  • Device name
  • Device Make/Model (e.g. Dell Optiplex, iMac)
  • Serial number/service tag
  • Location (where the device will reside
