UM IT Mac Support

UM IT provides support for University of Montana owned Mac computers. This includes installing licensed software, configuration, troubleshooting and installation of components and/or replacement of defective components. Details of service are as follows:

 

University-owned computers

Personal computers

 

Note: Laptops that are under warranty must be taken to an authorized repair technician/dealer.

Note: UM IT cannot provide hands-on maintenance or repair of any non-university computer.

 

Software

Load all default University software: Microsoft 365 Suite, Adobe Reader, Google Chrome, Firefox and VLC Reader.

Allow downloads and installation for other commonly used University software, including, but not limited to: Box Drive, Zoom, Citrix Workspace, etc using a managed software application

Provide administrative credentials (if applicable) for less commonly used applications that are properly licensed and approved.

Provide instructions on and oversight of loading licensed software.

Provide suggestions for access to Malware removal tools, Adobe reader, and other legal downloads.

 

System

Perform general maintenance and upkeep activities: disk defragmentation, cached and temporary file removal, antivirus scan and definition update, configuration review.

Reformat disk drives with best faith effort relative to data backup and recovery.

Provide instructions on general maintenance and upkeep activities: disk defragmentation, cached and temporary file removal, antivirus scan and definition update, configuration review.

Hardware

Initiate warranty on eligible devices that require service.

On devices out of warranty, diagnosis will be made based off of symptoms of device. Based off of diagnosis, repair procedures or replacement may be recommended by UM IT.

Inquire for possible partnership with local dealers for university discounts.
