Personal Device VPN Installation Instructions

VPN connection

Remote access to The University of Montana's network is available by connecting your personal device to Cisco's AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client Service. Click on the appropriate link below for installation steps. Once installed, login with your NetID and password. 

NOTE: You must be granted permission to use remote VPN software. Please complete the VPN Access Request Form. You must also abide by the University's acceptable use policies and agree to use your account according to these policies.

Additionally, you will need to be enrolled in Duo MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) in order to have access to the VPN. Go to the Multi-Factor Authentication article for instructions on this. After enrolling, go to "How do I setup and use the Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection?" for more information on the Duo push.

Installation/Connection steps

  1. Go to evpn2.umt.edu.
  2. After logging in, you will be prompted to download the appropriate version to your computer.
  3. Once Cisco Secure Client is launched, verify that evpn2.umt.edu is in the Connect to: field.
  4. Click Connect.


     
  5. Login with your NetID and password and click OK.
    • Please note that when you connect to the download link, a DUO authentication (Push, phone call, or passcode) will be sent to your device.

  6. Accept the DUO multi-factor authentication prompt.

Disconnection steps

  1. Click on the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client icon (in the System Tray or Dock).
  2. Click Disconnect.

Troubleshooting tips

Be sure to uninstall earlier VPN version and reboot before installing Cisco AnyConnect client.

If you experience problems logging in after your VPN request has been approved, reset your NetID password from the Change Password then try logging in to VPN again.
