Identity Verification Guidelines

Summary

In today's digital age, safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining a secure campus environment are paramount concerns. As such, it is imperative for UM IT and users alike to adhere to rigorous regulations and guidelines pertaining to identity verification. Whether the need arises for password resets, accessing confidential data, or disseminating sensitive information, the following policies serve as foundational pillars for ensuring the integrity and security of our information infrastructure.

Update

Moving forward, UM IT will be increasing its security protocols when verifying a person’s identity.

  • Griz cards are no longer a valid form of ID. Government-issued photo IDs will be required from now on.
    • Refer to the list of valid IDs below
  • In-person verifications will now require knowledge-check questions from Banner.
  • If you are unable to meet in person for an identity verification, you will need access to a functioning webcam and microphone to be assisted remotely through Zoom.
    • Over-the-phone verifications are no longer authorized
    • A Help Desk employee will share the Zoom meeting link with you.

If you have any questions about these new policies, feel free to reach out to us by phone at (406) 243-4357 or by email (ithelpdesk@umontana.edu).
