Our MacOS login screens are powered by Jamf Connect which provides a Microsoft Sign-In page for you to login with. When you sign in via the Microsoft Sign-In page, Jamf Connect generates a local account on that Mac using your Microsoft credentials. Jamf Connect will keep your local account password on the Mac synchronized with your Microsoft account password.
The MacOS login page is now laid out like this:

- In the center of the screen, we have the main Microsoft Sign-In prompt.
- In the top right corner, we have options for changing your keyboard layout and connecting to Wi-Fi.
- Along the bottom of the screen, from left to right, we have options for shutting down the computer, restarting the computer, switching to local login, refreshing the login page, and a help button leading to this article.
On the Microsoft Sign-In prompt, enter your first.last@umt.edu account credentials. A local account on the Mac is then generated and linked to your first.last@umt.edu login.

When logging into the Microsoft Sign-In screen after a password change, an error message will appear saying you have entered an invalid password. This error message is coming from your local account on the Mac which still has your previous password stored. Enter your previous password in the password field to continue logging in. If you do not know your previous password, you will need to contact the UM IT Helpdesk and request help resetting your local account's password.

After changing your Microsoft account password, the new password will need to be synced to your local MacOS account. After a few minutes, Jamf Connect will check your password and you will receive a notification stating that your Microsoft password does not match your local account password.
Hover over the Sync notification and click Sync.

After clicking Sync you will receive this sign in prompt. Enter your first.last@umt.edu account with your new password.

You will then be prompted to enter the password for your local MacOS account. This should be your previous Microsoft password. This will sync your local MacOS account password to your current Microsoft password.

The Microsoft Sign-In page can only function when your Mac is connected to the Internet. If you do not have Internet access, you can sign into your local account on the Mac directly if you have already signed in previously.
The Local login page should be automatically presented to you if you do not have Internet access. Otherwise, you can click on the Local login button at the bottom of the screen to switch to local login.

Select the Other… option and enter your local account information. Enter in your first.last account without @umt.edu, and your password. This will log you in directly to your local account.

All managed MacOS computers must now be encrypted with MacOS FileVault to adhere to MUS security policies. FileVault encrypts the hard drive of MacOS computers and prevents the data on the Mac from being accessed if the Mac is ever lost or stolen. On managed MacOS computers, this appears as a dual login. When starting or restarting a MacOS computer, you will be prompted to select a user account and enter the password for that account. This process will unlock FileVault and allow you to continue to the normal Microsoft Sign-In Page.
