Canvas Course Roster Merge or Duplication

Please review these definitions before submitting your request to ensure you are providing accurate information. Note that a CRN is a course’s 5-digit number, and a Course URL is the web link to your courses in Canvas. Failure to submit accurate CRNs and Course URLs may delay your request from being processed.

Roster Merge: A roster merge occurs when rosters are combined into one course shell (target) and all teaching and engagement will occur there. Students will no longer appear in the original course (source).

Roster Duplication: A roster duplication occurs when rosters are copied into one course shell (target) while also maintaining rosters in the original course (source). Students will appear on the rosters in both  courses.

Please note that Grade Passback will only work if the target course is a CRN course and not a manually created course such as a common area.

Your request will be reviewed to ensure it is in compliance with FERPA requirements. In cases where FERPA is a concern, you will be presented with options to ensure FERPA compliance before the request is processed.
