Faculty or Campus Affiliate Request

Affiliate Types:

A Faculty Affiliate is a distinguished individual associated with an academic department or organization at the University. This role focuses on fostering research collaboration, academic oversight, and contributing to scholarly activities. As a Faculty Affiliate, you will be granted a 790# and NetID. You can also request a University of Montana email address and access to resources such as the Mansfield Library. All Faculty Affiliates must be approved by the sponsoring department chair, dean, and Office of the Provost.

A Campus Affiliate is associated with an external organization that maintains a close working relationship with the University. Examples include employees from the UM Foundation, University Center vendors, or individuals involved in contracted services on campus. All Campus Affiliates must be approved by the sponsoring department and the Vice President for Operations and Finance.

Clinical Faculty Affiliate includes preceptors or clinical instructors who are not UM employees and who supervise students in health professions programs, including those in Missoula College, the College of Health, the College of Humanities and Sciences, and nursing programs. Designation and renewal are managed by the program director or clinical coordinator in collaboration with their dean.

A Clinical Research Affiliate includes clinicians who are not UM employees and are actively engaged in clinical research under the supervision of a UM investigator. The principal investigator (PI) or their designate manages this classification and its renewal.  Please list the PI as the sponsor for the faculty affiliate request.

To be granted affiliate status, a sponsoring department must submit an application that includes a summary of the affiliates qualifications and contributions. Faculty and Campus Affiliate appointments automatically expire on September 30th of each year. It is the affiliate's responsibility to work with their sponsoring department to renew their affiliate status.
