UM employee computer/email account

A UM employee domain account will grant you access to UM employee email, ability to log in to UM owned computers, shared departmental network drives, public folders, email distribution groups, networked printers, and other tools and applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, etc.

How do I access my UM employee email?

Employee email uses Microsoft Office 365. Your email is usually accessed via an Outlook email client or the Outlook for the Web website.

Employee O365 Login

In addition to email, Office 365 offers:

  • calendar
  • meeting organizer
  • task management
  • contacts
  • access to shared mailboxes, public folders, and address books.

Your login is in the @umt.edu format.

  • For example, user "First Last" may have an email address of "First.Last@mso.umt.edu". Their login for email would be "First.Last@umt.edu".
  • For example, user "John Doe" may have an email address of "John.Doe@mso.umt.edu.". Their login for email would be "John.Doe@umt.edu".

How do I change my email password?

If you are unable to log in to your email account, either because you are locked out or your password has expired, you will need to contact your IT Support department or call UM IT  help desk at (406) 243-HELP (4357) during regular business hours; Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

If you can still log in to your email account and just want to change your password, follow these steps:

  1. Click the "Employee O365 Login" button above and log in to your email account.
  2. Click on Options at the top right (below your name).
  3. Click on Change Your Password...
  4. Enter your current password.
  5. Enter your new password and password confirmation.
  6. Click Save.

How do I change my UM computer account password?

On-line Steps

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Navigate to outlook.office365.com
  3. Log in with your domain credentials, username@umt.edu.
  4. In the top right of the inbox screen click the circle with Your Initials or Photo.
  5. Click View account.
  6. In the left hand navigation bar select Password.
  7. Enter your current password in the old password field and then the new password twice for verification.
  8. Click Submit.

Please give the system a few minutes to synchronize and then use your new password to login. 

 

On Campus Method (Windows, UM networked computer only)

  1. Hit the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys simultaneously. 
  2. From the menu, click change a password.
  3. Enter your current password and then the new password twice for verification. 
  4. Click arrow to continue.

What is my UMontana alias? 

Your employee UMontana alias, in the form of first.last@umontana.edu, serves as your official UM email address.  You need to activate your alias to deliver to your MSO account in CyberBear.  Learn more about your UMontana alias.

How do I configure my email?

Use an email client that offers Exchange enabled accounts.  Type in your complete email address (i.e. first.last@mso.umt.edu) to allow auto-configuration to complete the setup.  Contact UM IT for additional assistance.
